Dr. Todd Funkhouser, MD, PhD

Dr. Funkhouser attended Medical School and Graduate School at the University of New Mexico. He graduated with a PhD in Molecular Biology and Biomedical Sciences, concentrated in gene regulation and immunogenetics, in 1998. He graduated with his MD the following year. His research interests are in gene regulation and cytokine response in allergic and autoimmune disease. He trained in and later taught Internal Medicine at William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC) in El Paso, TX. Dr. Funkhouser completed a Fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and the National Institutes of Health, in Washington DC. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI). He is board endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is a member and Fellow of the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. He completed military service as Lt Colonel and chief of Allergy, Immunology, and Adult Immunization at WBAMC.

Dr. Funkhouser maintains clinical research and teaching affiliations, and is community and adjunct medicine faculty at UNM School of Medicine, and Texas Tech University of Health Sciences Paul L Foster School of Medicine. Dr. Funkhouser is Licensed to practice medicine Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. He sees pediatric and adult patients with a fantastic team of providers in both Las Cruces NM and with Access Allergy in El Paso Texas.

When not treating patients, Dr. Funkhouser enjoys spending time with his wife and two children and supporting their school and performance activities. He is intensely proud of his children and credits his parents for nurturing his love of and priority for family.
Dr. Funkhouser enjoys reading. He is an audiophile and a great lover of stories in books and film. He and his wife are fans of language and culture, and he counts among his great fortunes being able to marry the love of his life after spending time studying together in many places around the world. Dr. Funkhouser speaks Spanish and French.

Glenda Cardona, MPAS, PA-C

Mrs. Glenda Cardona is a Certified Physician Assistant, licensed by the Florida and Texas Medical Board of Medicine who has practiced in the allergy field since 2010. Her areas of expertise include management of food allergies and sensitivities, chronic urticaria, asthma, nasal allergies, sinusitis and immunodeficiency. Mrs. Cardona graduated top of her class and received her degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Miami Dade College and her Master's in Advanced Physician Assistant Studies from A.T. Still University. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), the American Academy of Physician Assistants in Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAPA-AAI), and the Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE). Mrs. Cardona has been a guest speaker at multiple health fairs and community events and has lectured on Food Allergies at the University of Texas. She believes that exercise and diet are a key component to the function of every part of our body and she encourages her patients to eat unprocessed, organic, whole foods to achieve greater health and vitality.

Ana Serna, MPAS, PA-C

Mrs. Ana Serna is a certified Physician Assistant, licensed by the Texas Medical Board. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences at the University of Texas at El Paso in 2009. She pursued her graduate studies at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas where she received her Master of Physician Assistant Studies in 2019. She is an inductee of Pi Alpha, the National Physician Assistant Honor Society.  

She is passionate about the field of Allergy and Immunology. As a long-time allergy sufferer and asthmatic, she feels that she can relate to her patients and enjoys helping them improve their quality of life.  Mrs. Serna has a special interest in global health. She has traveled to rural villages in Guatemala to provide healthcare to indigenous populations in partnership with UTSW and Refuge International.

When not caring for patients in clinic, Mrs. Serna enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter and their 3 dogs. She is a native El Pasoan and a proud Socorro Bulldog. She is fluent in English and Spanish.  

Kimberly Joshi, MPAS, PA-C

Kimberly Joshi is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor and Physician Assistant. She graduated from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine with Honors, receiving her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine in 2006. She has been working as a Physician Assistant since her graduation from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2003 where she received her MS in Physician Assistant Studies. She has worked in family medicine as well as toxicology, giving her a unique background in the safe use of medications, supplements, and herbal therapies. She has coauthored a chapter in a nursing textbook, as well as published three abstracts in the Journal of Clinical Toxicology.

Dr. Joshi has worked in healthcare all her adult life. While studying at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology with High Distinction, she worked in home health care and hospice. This is where she first experienced the importance of addressing the mind-body-spirit connection as well as practicing in a way that respects and honors a patient’s individual needs.

 As she prepared herself to apply to traditional medical school, she was introduced to naturopathic medicine which really resonated with her beliefs. She especially appreciated the focus on prevention, nutrition, and the doctor-patient relationship, so her path took her to Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona. She was on the research committee while working on her doctorate to focus on the validity and safety of holistic medicine as she learned to incorporate these therapeutics into her medical practice and personal life.

Dr. Joshi is passionate about her patients, wellness and naturopathy. Dr. Joshi currently resides in El Paso, TX and lives with her two children, husband and dog. She is very involved in the community and is on the board as treasurer for a local PTA and team manager for a local youth soccer team.

Laura Herrera, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, CPI

Dr. Herrera started her nursing career 26 years ago and was a Critical Care & Psychiatric nurse for 12 years. She has been a Family Nurse Practitioner for almost 14 years and has practiced in the areas of Asthma, Allergy & Immunology, OB-GYN, Family & Internal Medicine, Nephrology and Clinical Research. At the present time she is practicing in Asthma, Allergy & Immunology full-time in clinical research and part-time in the clinic. She is also a consultant and instructor in the Clinical Trial Academy at the Medical Center of the Americas. In Academia, she is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at El Paso and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

Elizabeth Bravo, APRN, PNP-C

Mrs. Elizabeth Heredia Bravo is a certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, licensed by the Texas Board of Nursing. She received her undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 2005 from the University of Texas at El Paso. She worked in the general pediatric floor at a local hospital for 4 years before pursuing her studies for a Master of Science in Nursing. Mrs Bravo obtained her Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2011. She is a member of the nursing honor society Sigma Theta Tau.

Mrs. Bravo has over 18 years of experience working with El Paso's pediatric community. She has worked with children from birth to 21 years of age in primary care for 11 years. Her care ranged from growth and development, common childhood illnesses, and chronic illnesses such as asthma and allergies. Elizabeth is looking forward to continuing to serve the pediatric population while focusing on asthma, allergy, and immunology.

Mrs. Bravo enjoys spending time with her 9 year old son and husband. Her hobbies include music, reading and traveling.

As a lifelong El Pasoan, she is fortunate to continue to pursue her passion for pediatric care in a specialized field that affects a wide range of children in our community.

Henry Martinez, PA-C

Mr. Henry Martinez has worked as a medical provider for over 30 years. He is an International Medical Graduate and practiced as family doctor in his country, Cuba. Henry moved to the Miami, Florida in 1995 and he obtained his Physician Assistant degree from Miami Dade College in 2003. Mr. Martinez is a certified through the NCCPA and licensed to practice in Florida and Texas. PA Martinez has vast experience in Allergy/Immunology. He became a member of Asthma and Allergy Associates of Florida in 2008 and has been working as a provider in the Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology specialty for over 15 years. He is also an active member of the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology. In addition, Mr. Martinez has worked in Emergency Medicine & Family Medicine. He enjoys being able to listen to patients while evaluating, treating, and monitoring complex medical conditions. He recently decided to move to East Texas and join Access Allergy in Tyler and is looking forward to building new relationships with patients.

In his free time, Mr. Martinez enjoys spending time with his lovely wife, Yerenis and their five children and 3 grandchildren. He is devoted to his family and able to understand the needs of families today because of all his experiences. He was born in a small town in Cuba and continues to enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and spending time in nature, which is a large reason he wanted to move to East Texas. He is passionate about his faith and compelled to use his medical talents to serve his patients.
