Allergy Testing & Interpretation
At Access Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology we understand how challenging allergies can be for both children and adults. Whether you’re a parent managing your child’s healthcare or an individual navigating your own allergy symptoms, knowing the basics of allergy testing and management is the first step toward relief. Here’s a quick guide to help you understand what to expect and how we can help.
What is Allergy Testing?
Allergy testing is a safe and effective way to identify specific allergens that trigger symptoms like sneezing, coughing, rashes, or more severe reactions. Testing helps pinpoint the causes, such as pollen, pet dander, mold, food, or insect stings, so that you can take steps to minimize exposure and manage symptoms effectively.
Types of Allergy Testing We Offer

Skin Prick Testing
- Tiny amounts of allergens are applied to the skin using a small prick.
- Our providers are trained to interpret the results of your skin tests.
- Ideal for diagnosing environmental and food allergies.
Immunocap Blood Testing
- Measures the presence of specific antibodies in your blood to detect allergies.
- Useful when skin testing isn’t an option, such as with certain medications or skin conditions.
Patch Testing
- Used to diagnose contact allergies, such as reactions to fragrances, metals, or skincare products.
- Allergens are applied to patches and worn for 48 hours to monitor for delayed reactions.
- The patch is then removed and results are read at 48hr and 72hrs.
Managing Your Child's Allergies
For mothers caring for children with allergies, testing can be life changing. Children may experience allergies in ways that impact their daily lives, from difficulty concentrating in school to avoiding certain foods or activities.

Here's How You Can Help
Identify Triggers Early
Identify Environment
Environmental allergy testing helps uncover allergens that might be causing your child’s respiratory symptoms.
Food Allergy Testing
Food allergy testing helps us confirm and diagnose food allergies that may be causing rashes or allergic reactions.
Create an Allergy Action Plan
Once the triggers are identified, our team works with you to create a customized plan, including medications, lifestyle/diet changes, environmental modifications and when appropriate, desensitization.
Educate Your Child
Teach your child to recognize symptoms and avoid triggers. This is especially important for food allergies, where cross-contamination can be dangerous. Our team takes the time to provide education environmental control, food avoidance, recognizing the signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction and how to properly manage one if it occurs.
